Drobeta-Turnu Severin este un oraș din județul Mehedinți. Se află la aproximativ 160 km de Reșița, pe malul nordic al Dunării. Acest oraș mic (aproximativ 90.000 de locuitori) ispitește turiștii cu locația sa atractivă și monumentele sale de acum câteva sute de ani.

Monumentul este un omagiu adus soldaților români căzuți la datorie în primul război mondial. A fost construit între anii 1928-1933 și inaugurat la 4 iunie, în 1933. Este situat în Parcul Rozelor. Lucrarea a fost realizată de sculptorul Teodor Burcă și de pietrarul Carol Umberto.

Palatul culturii (foto principal) este unul dintre simbolurile Severinului. A fost declarat monument istoric protejat. A fost proiectat de arhitectul Grigore Cerkez. Construcția sa a început în 1912. Pentru locuitorii din Drobeta-Turnu Severin, clădirea a servit scopului unui centru de teatru și cultură.

Muzeul a fost deschis la 15 mai, în 1972. Exponatele sale includ științe naturale, istorie, documente, arheologie și etnografie. Sunt prezente lucrări ale unor artiști de artă modernă români – Luchian, Petrașcu, Pallady, Tonitza, Dimitrescu, Șirato, Stoenescu și Ressu.

Aceste ruine restaurate marchează locul unde a stat odată puternica Cetate a Severinului. Fortul datează din secolul al XI-lea și pe atunci marca granița dintre Regatul Ungar și Imperiul Bulgar.

Dunărea este al doilea cel mai lung râu din Europa, după Volga. La Poarta de Fier, Dunărea face parte din granița dintre Serbia și România. De-a lungul cursului său, râul este o sursă de apă potabilă pentru aproximativ 20 de milioane de oameni.

Drobeta-Turnu Severin is a city in Mehedinți County, Oltenia. It is located about 160 km from Reșița, on the northern bank of the Danube. This small town (about 90,000 inhabitants) tempts tourists with its attractive location and monuments from several hundred years ago.

The monument is a tribute to the Romanian soldiers who fell on duty in the First World War. It was built between 1928-1933 and inaugurated on the 4th of June, in 1933. It is located in Rozelor Park. The work was made by the sculptor Teodor Burcă and the stonemason Carol Umberto.

A palace is one of the symbols of Severin and was declared a protected historical monument. It was designed by architect Grigore Cerkez. Its construction began in 1912. For the people of Drobeta-Turnu Severin, the building served the purpose of a theatre and culture centre.

The museum opened on 15th May, in 1972. Its exhibits include natural sciences, history, documents, archaeology and ethnography. One can find there works by modern Romanian fine artists – Luchian, Petrașcu, Pallady, Tonitza, Dimitrescu, Șirato, Stoenescu and Ressu.

These restored ruins mark the spot where the mighty Fortress of Severin once stood. The fort dates from the 11th century and back then marked the border between the Hungarian Kingdom and the Bulgarian Empire. It was demolished on the 16th.

The Danube is Europe’s second-longest river, after the Volga. At the Iron Gate, the Danube forms part of the boundary between Serbia and Romania. Along its course, the river is a source of drinking water for about 20 million people.
