On December 21nd of 2020 a United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution A/75/200 proclaiming February 4th to be an International Day of Human Fraternity. This year it is officially a second celebration of this occasion.

Before that, The Document on Human Fraternity and Living Together or Abu Dhabi declaration or agreement was signed, on 4th February 2019 by Pope Francis of the Catholic Church and Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar. A document has become a sign for developing a “culture of mutual respect” and the possibility of people living peacefully no matter what faith do they have.

ziua internationala a fraternitatii umane

Celebration of this day is meant to celebrate intercultural and interreligious dialogues. In nowadays reality, where the wars and conflicts tend to evolve and that are based on national, religious and cultural disagreements, we have to be even more tolerant, vigilant and be aware of the diversity and accept. There should be no discrimination based on religion and belief. We should apply and promote human fraternity, any of us, on local, national and international levels to ensure peace and social stability, mutual respect and proper development.

As the time goes, I believe there will be even more policies and actions implemented on behalf of the established International Day of Human Fraternity. Meanwhile, we should ask ourselves: “What could we and should we do better to ensure we are closer to the path of reaching the tolerant and diversified environment in all principles? How can each of us make a change for the better world?”
